Export & Import

You can export a hoard to back up your data or move it to another account or hoard. You can also import a previously exported hoard to restore or duplicate it.

Why Export?

• Backup your data: keep a local copy for peace of mind
• Transfer between hoards or accounts: move items from one place to another
• Share with others: send your collection data to someone else to import
• Offline access: keep a local reference of your inventory
• Migrate away from Hoardly: take your data and images with you

Exporting a Hoard

1. Open the hoard and go to Hoard Settings → Export.
2. Choose a format (see below):
   • Export as JSON
   • Export as ZIP (with images)
3. The export is processed in the background. Large hoards may take a few minutes.
4. When it's ready, click Download in the export history.

Exports are generated asynchronously and are available for 24 hours. You'll get a notification when yours is ready. You can have at most 3 JSON or 1 ZIP export active at a time.

Export Formats

JSON

A complete export of all hoard data: items, custom field definitions and values, tags, acquisition info, currency, appearance, and image metadata (but not the image files themselves).

• Best for: Backups and re-importing to Hoardly
• Can be re-imported: Yes

ZIP (with images)

Everything from the JSON export, plus all original item images, bundled into a ZIP file.

• Best for: Complete offline backups and migrating away from Hoardly
• Can be re-imported: Yes

Importing a Hoard

1. Go to Create New Hoard (sidebar → Hoards → +), then choose Import Existing Hoard.
2. Select your .json or .zip export file.
3. Review the import preview.
4. Choose an import mode (see below).
5. Start the import.

Large imports may take several minutes. You can navigate away and will be notified when the import completes.

If your account is at the free limit for hoards that aren't Public and the export is Private, Friends, or Unlisted, the preview shows it will be imported as Public instead. Supporters don't have that limit.

Import Modes

• Create new hoard - creates a brand new hoard from the export, preserving the original name and settings.
• Merge into existing - adds the imported items into a hoard you already have. Custom fields from the import are matched to, or added to, the target hoard's field definitions.
